ABOUT ST MICHAEL’S MANOR HOTEL

St Michael’s Manor is a beautiful townhouse hotel in five acres of gardens set on a lake. It has a luxurious feel inside and out and it’s easy to forgot you’re so close to the centre of town in this little oasis.

History of St Michael’s Manor Hotel

The building was converted into a hotel in 1965 from the house built in 1585 by John Gape, a prominent local figure and respected tanner. Apparently, you can see this date inscribed in the plaster of the Oak Lounge still.

WHY CHOSE ST MICHAEL’S MANOR FOR YOUR WEDDING?

1. GREAT FOOD

The food at St Michael’s is top notch – it’s beautifully presented and delicious, so if you are foodies then the menu here is sure to wow your guests.

They also do amazing vegetarian and vegan options, rather than some sad afterthought to a meat meal, which is the case at some venues.

2. OUTDOOR SPACE FOR PHOTOS

The gardens and lake are stunning for your wedding photos. They’re the perfect backdrop for candid photos of guests and formal family and couple photos. It’s such a pretty, romantic setting – I love it! Plus you can even have your wedding ceremony outdoors on dry days overlooking the lake which is pretty special.

That’s not to say that there aren’t lovely spaces to cuddle up and get some pictures together inside if the weather isn’t the best so don’t fret about that. I can get fab wedding photos for you no matter the weather!

3. ACCOMODATION OPTIONS

St Michael’s Manor has 30 individually styled bedrooms which if you’re having a smaller wedding could well be enough to accommodate all your wedding guests. For larger weddings your closer friends and family could stay here with convenient options like the newly built Premier Inn just a short taxi ride away. They also have a number of wheelchair accessible rooms and a room with a deaf-alarm which is great if you have guests that need these features.

4. GREAT LOCATION

If you want great things for your guests to do pre- or post-wedding then St Albans has so much going for it and St Michael’s Manor is right in the heart of the action. You’re just a short walk up the historic and beautiful Fishpool Street into the city centre. Here you’ll find lots of bars, restaurants and attractions like the beautiful cathedral.

You’ve also got Verulamium Park with the famous roman ruins, the hypocaust and the Roman Museum. All worth a visit!

5. WEDDING SUITE

The added benefit, above and beyond the guest accommodation, is that the wedding suite at St Michael’s Manor Hotel is huge. It’s great for getting ready in, with plenty of room for suppliers to join you. It’s such a gorgeous, bright space with lovely views over the lake to give you that serene feel in the morning. I can highly recommend having a look round it when you go and visit the venue.

THE AREAS FOR YOUR CEREMONY AND RECEPTION

There are five main areas for ceremonies at St Michael’s Manor.

The largest of the indoor areas is the orangery which accommodates 140 guests and is a beautiful, light space which is fantastic for photos.

The other areas are better for smaller weddings. The Cedar Suite holds 30 guests and the Oak Lounge is the smallest room at 14 guests. The Oak Lounge and Cedar Suite can also be used for smaller reception dinners.

Of course, you can also opt for an outdoor wedding ceremony as well; the lawn holds a large number of guests while the summerhouse can accommodate up to 24 guests.

If you opt for exclusive use you get the whole hotel for 24 hours and then have the whole garden area, beautiful terrace and all the bedrooms.
