When we met up for an engagement shoot the weather had said that it might drizzle a bit. Tash and Pete opted to go ahead anyway. What followed was one of the most torrentially wet hours I think any of us have ever experienced. It ended up with all three of us in some sort of hysterical panicked laughter. But somehow, the two of them never stopped smiling and laughing (as the sound of our squelching shoes provided a beautiful soundtrack to the misery of the experience).
And I realised then that these two were the real deal because if you can get through those kind of horrific hours (and truly, I cannot explain how bad this weather was!) while endlessly making each other crack up then you are well placed for whatever challenges marriage throws at you.
Their wedding was no different. They told me about the relaxed vibe they wanted for their wedding day and I have to admit I was a tiny bit sceptical about how it would work when they moved their ceremony to the ST ALBANS CATHEDRAL, probably the most formal location in the city. However, they pulled off the most amazingly chilled and love filled day going.
This is just the vibe this awesome duo carry with them. They laugh a lot, loudly. They hug their friends and family hard. They dance with crazy abandon. They get excited about food. These are good, good people who threw themselves head first into every bit of their wedding day and did it their way. They didn’t want to sit to eat, so they didn’t. They didn’t want to have super formal speeches, so they didn’t. It was 100% on their terms.
And it was 100% awesome.
They got ready separately at home – the girls were full of excitement, and champagne. Pete panicked with his groomsmen in St Albans then wandered to the Boot pub in the city centre where he greeted guests, then nervously waited at the end of the spectacular aisle of the St Albans Cathedral for Tash to arrive.
After their St Albans Abbey ceremony guests all walked over to the White Hart Hotel where guests mingled over Pimms and cold beers. They had standing speeches (which were epically funny) after a hog roast and then got right down to the dancing. You’ll see from the photos just how insanely crowded the dancefloor was because nobody wanted to sit down. It was a massive photography challenge to photograph but also such a pleasant change from the one person doing a bit of dodgy Dad dancing alone after the first dance!
I hope you feel the unadulterated joy in these photos.
