When the rain is pouring, what do you do?
When the rain is pouring outside, I’m sure most people don’t think “yay, it’s family photo day!” – would you? This rainy day family shoot has quickly turned into one of my all-time favourites, however.
The majority of people would wake up to a grey skies and reschedule their family photo session. However, I implore you to take a look at these and realise just how irrelevant the weather is in family photography. The best bits of having your family photographed are the little moments that get captured; the kisses, hugs and laughter. Sure, it’s always nice to have a beautiful forest around you or be playing on the beach, but those things are the backdrop to your life, not the fabric of it.
You can see a whole bunch of different indoor and outdoor family photos and decide what might be right for you but read on to see why there is something special about being in your home too!
Family photography at home in Hertfordshire
Mel and Heidi never left their living room during the photo session. Yet the photos are fun, varied and really show the great relationship they have with each other. It’s part of the reason that I feel having photos at home is such a great idea. They were already relaxed and in a familiar environment before I even walked through the door.
Heidi is a really smart little two-year-old – her speech is insanely advanced and she was chatting to me about all sorts of things. She loves books and reading a lot. She sang loads of songs, shared her (wooden) birthday cake with me and treated various ailments while playing doctor. Suffice to say I loved my time hanging out with these two!
Mel said this about the whole experience: “It was so lovely to have some beautiful natural pictures taken of me and my daughter (I’m usually left out of photos as I’m the one taking them). I loved that they capture our closeness and an insight into our everyday world, playing and having fun together. Tori made everything so relaxed. Heidi had great fun and I didn’t feel self-conscious at all. I didn’t really notice the photos being taken. I’m thrilled with the end result. Thank you Tori!”
It just goes to show that you can have amazing photos that tell the story of your relationship with your children without even leaving your living room. The weather doesn’t have to be a worry. Of course, if you are desperate for some outdoor photos then we can put wellies on and go puddle jumping but the bottom line is don’t stress!
