Katy & Ben had the most relaxed, perfect wedding at St Michael’s Manor in St Albans on a glorious summer day. When we first chatted, they told me they wanted a relaxed feel, focused on friends and family rather than formality and things and they pulled this off perfectly.
Katy said she knew St Michael’s Manor was the venue for them immediately when they walked into the beautifully bright Orangery where they held the ceremony. It was the views over the gorgeous gardens and the outdoor feel that swung them (but without the risk from the weather if it turned out to be a bad day) and they’re right, it’s a great setting!
Having been together for 20 years already by the time they got married (and she proposed to him, go Katy!) and sharing their gorgeous 6-year-old son there were a lot of long-term friends from their time together at university and a lot of friends who have gone on to have their own families as well. Katy and Ben therefore made so many provisions for kids and it had a fun, festival feel to it. The lawn was scattered with giant games like Connect-4, Jenga, ribbons, and other toys. The kids were having an absolute blast!
Plus, Katy and Ben had hired children’s entertainers who took all the kids off to a separate room where they had a kid friendly meal, played and watched a movie and fell asleep in sleeping bags rather than ‘suffered’ through the boring bits of a wedding (in a kids’ eyes, not mine!) – these kids had the best time.
Not to forget the adults who also had a brilliant time with incredible food, amazing speeches and then a fab evening on the dance floor with loads of rock music played (my favourite!)
Here’s what Ben & Katy said about working together:
“We were so pleased we asked Tori to be our wedding photographer. She was fantastic on the day, all of our guests loved her. She was on top of everything, it was like having an extra friend who knew a lot about weddings! She very gently steered us in the right direction through the wedding routines. And this was on top of photographing everything!”
