Here’s what you need to know about Coltsfoot Country Retreat.

ABOUT COLTSFOOT COUNTRY RETREAT

Coltsfoot is a beautiful, exclusive use barn venue just outside Datchworth, nestled in the gorgeous Hertfordshire countryside. It offers civil ceremonies, excellent food, incredible photo opportunities and accommodation.

WHY CHOSE COLTSFOOT  FOR YOUR WEDDING?

Firstly, the surroundings at Coltsfoot Country Retreat are so beautiful it’ll take your breath away when you go to visit! But apart from that, there are a lot of other GREAT reasons why you should consider Coltsfoot as your home for your wedding day…

1. THE AMAZING FOOD

I have eaten a LOT of supplier meals over my decade plus photographing weddings and I can safely say that the meals I’ve eaten at Coltsfoot have been the best I’ve ever had. Their food is absolutely outstanding. And it’s always served to me with a massive smile from the lovely team. Just between you and me, I can tell you that isn’t always the reception that the behind the scenes vendors receive from every wedding venue (shhhh!). Plus you get to enjoy your amazing meal watching the sun set over our gorgeous Hertfordshire countryside – perfection.

2. EXCLUSIVE USE BY DEFAULT

If having the space to yourselves is important then Coltsfoot will tick this box for you as they only have one wedding a day and there isn’t anyone wandering around the property from outside. It’s a totally private little oasis down a quiet country lane.

3. PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES

If you’re wanting amazing photos of your wedding day (and why wouldn’t you?!) then the grounds are going to wow you. If you get a lovely sunset then you’re doubly lucky because the golden hour here is absolutely killer with rolling hills for miles.

4. GORGEOUS ACCOMMODATION

There are 13 beautiful rooms at Coltsfoot all around the beautiful courtyard, converted from the original stables so you can crawl home in the wee hours and keep the party going with another fabulous meal served up at breakfast!

5. MODERN BUT TRADITIONAL

If you love the idea of a barn wedding but want great photos then this is definitely a great choice. It’s a far cry from dark beams and no light that will affect your photos. It’s a light, bright, airy modern space that you can dress up as you like to match your wedding theme, while still retaining an element of rustic charm.

THE AREAS FOR YOUR CEREMONY AND RECEPTION

There is a fixed marquee area on the front of the barn so you can have an indoor/outdoor feel to your wedding no matter the weather, making this a venue suitable for any season.

Usually couples opt for their wedding ceremony to take place in the fixed marquee. There is space for 120 guests seated and a further 20 standing at your civil ceremony. Although the ceremony does have to take place inside the barn (they do not have an outdoor licence), most couples marry just inside the doors while their guests are seated in the marquee just outside.

Weather permitting, drinks are served outside in the beautiful courtyard. There is also a lovely bar area for less warm or dry days.

Receptions have a minimum guest number of 70 on Fridays and Saturdays and the venue can accommodate up to 120 seated for dinner in the main barn with a further capacity for a further 50 evening guests.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF COLTSFOOT

Coltsfoot was actually a working livery and until 2000 when it was changed into a wedding venue. The former stables are now used as the luxury accommodation where you’ll enjoy getting ready for your wedding day.

The main barn has recently undergone a huge renovation and is how a large, bright, modern space with high, vaulted ceilings and it’s absolutely stunning.

The venue also keep adorable little alpacas who often make an appearance in couple’s wedding photos!
