Tipi wedding photographer: Helen & Ed in Wales

Tipi wedding photographer: Helen & Ed in Wales

A few weekends ago I drove to Aberosch in North Wales to photograph Helen & Ed’s wedding.  The weather forecast was dire and the weather all week had been a combination of torrential rain and high winds.  I drove the five hours there through said pouring rain.  It transpired that the tipi they were having their reception in had been hit by lightning and had got flooded during the set-up.  Things were not looking positive.  Friday afternoon I watched all Ed’s friends dig rain channels and relay the marquee floor.

On Saturday, we woke up to a gloriously sunny day!  The skies were blue and the sun was shining.  All was well in the world.  After a very relaxed morning with Helen and her family, Helen & Ed had a lovely church ceremony at a chocolate box church in their village.  My absolutely favourite moment was when they first saw each other at the altar – huge grins all round.

After the church we went to the beach to take some quick photos between temporary rain showers.  I’ve never been on a beach on a wedding day but it was awesome – exactly the relaxed feel Helen had told me that she wanted for their day.  Helen & Ed traveled in the back of Ed’s beloved Land Rover, complete with champagne to go!

The tipi that was in the grounds of the pub Helen & Ed own looked beautiful – Helen had handmade all the decorations including table runners, table sign windmills and handwritten table plans, framed poems and little bird place cards.

All of this loveliness was only topped by Helen (who has the most incredible voice) surprising Ed after their first dance with two songs.  She performed Caro Emerald’s That Man and A Life That’s Good from Nashville.  Well, it had all guests utterly captivated and I’m so glad I was there to witness something so special.

I really do wish Helen & Ed all the happiness that they deserve in life and was so chuffed to be part of their day.
